South Street Carnival '05

South Street Caribbean Parade

A nice day for carnival on south street here in Philadelphia. Can I say in lieu of Philly carnival, which didn't make it this year on the traditional fathers day week end. This outing, however, was not uneventful.

After a late arrival of the Pan Stars steel band,  and the usual  pissing contest between some band members. The scheduled three o' clock start got on the way shortly after four o' clock.

O' happy day...Wait a minute. The trailer carrying the band seems to be a little weighty in the rear. A bit extended pass the rear wheels, things began to sag. As gravity will do what gravity does.

I brought to the attention of one of  the supporting staff, the tentative situation. He made a personal observation and replied " it will hold, we built it." He soon changed his mind and decided to redistribute the weight.

"All is well that ends well."  Three block from the destination the procession was again stopped when the truck towing the trailer stared blowing steam from under the hood. This stopped the procession in its tracks.

Well so much for sweet-pan-on-South-Street. The masqueraders forged on to their destination and put on an enjoyable performance  along with Falun Gong and the big bad wokkie as MC. I personally thought there was a nice turnout. The little dent in our pride notwithstanding, we had a good time,
