South Street Carnival '05
Jersey City Caribbean Carnival
|
Jersey City Caribbean/ West Indian
Carnival Association Inc.,
carnival festival is held at Exchange place, Jersey City. In my estimation
one of the most picturesque venues for a festival that I've seen. The
Parade route isn't bad either.
What irony you might think. That such a
place where a statute stands to remind us of man's inhumanity to man. An
alluring background that remind us of a much more recent
vicious taking of human life. Yet the beauty of this place calms
all fears. As the festival leg of the Caribbean parade gets on the way. The immediate background is a reminder of, perhaps a more profound history. The grotesque statute you see of a bayoneted rifle protruding from the back of a person, commemorates the massacre of some 15,400 polish leaders, intellectuals and military officers by the Soviet Union. Buried in this place called, Katyn in 1940. And the many women and children who died en route to, and in Siberia's work camps in 1939.
Exchange place certainly brings with
it many emotions. Along with it's beckoning scenery of New York's Lower
Manhattan skyline. Add to this the quaint train station that seem to
belong somewhere in the Long Island suburbs and a number of other places
I can think of. See you there. |
